Escaping Perfectionism

Just let go

As society advances more and more people are moving from generalist to specialists. Whether its your career, sport or any of number of activities. While this can be good in many ways it can also be a barrier of entry for many thinking they need to be extremely good or close to perfect to apply themselves to the activity or point of interest. When it comes to health and fitness I try to tell my clients that I know how hard it is to remain on track and keep your wellness at the forefront. I try to tell those that may be struggling with the rollercoaster of life to keep looking forward. We’re not trying to be a 10 out of 10 all the time with our nutritional or fitness goals. If we can keep a steady 7/10 for the rest of your life week to week that is going to keep us headed in the right direction. Going from 10 to 3 to 9 to 4 is frustrating and discouraged us from staying the course. Planned on having 60 minutes but only have 15 today because of a new activity for your kids put on your schedule, just do the 15. Wanted to reach your new goal of 500 Watts on the bike but only did 450, roll with it and hit it next week. Taking the long approach just like putting a small amount into a IRA each month will lead to a large pot at the end. So just let go and see the big picture. Enjoy the ice cream once in a while with your kids. Have a glass of wine with close friends you haven’t seen in a while. Just be consistent and think long term.
